OUTBOUND TOURISM IN 2019: WHERE ARE RUSSIANS TRAVELLING?
With the Russian outbound travel industry growing steadily every year, we took a look at the figures for the first six months of 2019
From 1 January – 30 June 2019, Russian citizens made 19,891,000 trips abroad – 6% more than the same period in 2018, which was 9% more than in 2017, according to the Russian State Statistics Service Rosstat.
Where are Russian tourists travelling?
The top destinations for Russian tourists in the first half of 2019 are:
- Turkey – 2,649,000 (+16%)
- Finland – 1,644,000 (+6%)
- Kazakhstan – 1,371,000 (+6%)
- China – 1,077,000 (+19%)
- Ukraine – 1,057,000 (-2%)
- Estonia – 847,000 (-1%)
- Thailand – 654,000 (-4%)
- Georgia – 630,000 (+30%)
- Germany – 628,000 (+6%)
- Italy – 594,000 (+19%)
Turkey remains the no.1 choice after its return to the market in 2017.
Other key destinations include Poland – 527,000, UAE – 501,000, Spain – 436,000, Azerbaijan – 328,000, Cyprus – 343,000, and Vietnam – 300,000.
Destinations showing the highest year-on-year growth include:
Sri Lanka: +300% (20,000), Bahrain: +114% (15,000), Montenegro: +51% (137,000), Slovenia: +44% (13,000), Romania: +43% (10,000), Maldives: +47% (28,000), Serbia: +42% (44,000), Uzbekistan: +35% (96,000), Georgia: +30 (630,000), Japan: +28% (46,000), Belgium: +28% (51,000), and Cuba: +24% (62,000).
