RUSSIAN TOURIST SPEND ABROAD HIGHER THAN EUROPEANS

Russian tourists spend on average $1,676 per person per foreign holiday, more than their European counterparts who spend $1,174, according to the recent Visa Global Travel Intentions Study 2018

The study found that the global average spend is $1,793, with the highest spending nations Saudi Arabia ($5,333), Kuwait ($3,143), China ($2,988), Australia ($2,745), and the UAE ($2,722).

Visa reports that only 7% of Russian tourists – compared to 17% of European tourists – use ATMs abroad, but withdrawals are far larger - $547 on average by Russian tourists and $346 by Europeans.

Russian tourist spend to rise 5%

According to Visa’s forecasts, the average spend on travel will increase globally by 36% from $1,793 to $2,443 over the next two years. This will see Rusisan travellers spend 5% more, Saudi Arabian 10% less, and European 20% more.

More details on Russian tourists’ spending habits were revealed in the report: they spend 51% of their budget in advance on transport and accommodation services and 49% at the destination itself.

Longer than average stays

The report also noted that Russian travellers make 4.3 trips a year on average and they tend to stay 10 nights – 2 nights longer than the global average.

91% of Russian tourists use mobile devices to access the Internet abroad – compared to 78% of Europeans and 88% globally.
