Destination focus: France

Home to world-famous sights and stunning beaches, mountains and countryside, France held the crown as most visited country in the world in 2017 and 2018.

Its total inbound figure rose 3% in 2018 to reach 89.6 million tourists, and the number of Russian tourists arriving in France rose 1% to reach 476,000 in total, according to Russian State Statistics Service Rosstat.
This growth has continued over the first half of 2019 – 11% more Russian tourists travelled to France than in the first six months of 2018 – that’s 25,000 more people to reach a total of 254,000.
The positive statistics follow the French-Russian Cultural Tourism Cross Year in 2016 and marked a sea change after a decline in the number of Russian tourists in 2015.

It’s a remarkable change over the past few years, and more growth is predicted. In July, recognising the demand for France, Ural Airlines launched direct flights to Bordeaux and Montpellier each three times a week.
One of France’s main advantages as a holiday destination is its wide variety of offerings. There’s beaches, cities, beautiful countryside and quaint rural villages, and of course great ski resorts in the French Alps.

Demand for ski holidays is on the rise among Russian tourists and with French ski resorts a favourite, France is in prime position to welcome even more Russians in the future.
Even better for French ski resorts, Russian tourists tend to stay longer than the average tourist, they spend more than their European counterparts, and their holidays are spread across the season.
